He was already a werewolf by birth, and thus grew up as one. His mother died protecting him from poachers when he was only 8, and he and his father saught seclusion. 2 years later, M.U.N.S.T.E.R. Academy was established, and he sought out the principal, hoping for some help. Having ties with authorities in their jurisdiction, she got them to build a protected area (kind of like an animal sanctuary) for Artemis and his father close to the school.
